Guest Star of the Week: Sebastian Roché

Sebastian Roché, born on the 4th of August 1964 in Paris, is a successful French actor. As well as appearing in several well known TV shows, including Supernatural, he has a history in classical theatre where he has played famous roles in productions such as Salome and Macbeth.

His early years saw him travel with his family on a sailing boat to places such as Africa, the Caribbean, and South America. As well as being well travelled, Sebastian is very well spoken, being fluent in English, French, Italian, and Spanish.

After graduating from the prestigious Paris Conservatoire National Superieur d’Art Dramatique, he went on to work in French theatre, television, and films, only moving to the US in 1992 to continue his acting career.

Since living in the US, Sebastian has acquired many TV and film roles, working with many movie greats like Al Pacino and Heath Ledger. Perhaps his first continuous role was of Longinus on the television series called ‘Roar’, a show that also starred Heath Ledger.

In 2002, another recurring role in ‘Odyssey 5’ saw Roché star as Kurt Mendel, who he played until the show’s end in 2004.

Mikael in TVDMore notably to fans of the network ‘The CW’, Sebastian has appeared in both The Vampire Diaries and Supernatural. The Vampire Diaries saw him play Mikael, a short, yet very prominent, role where his character was introduced as not only one of the powerful Original vampires, but a deadly vampire hunter too.

In Supernatural, we all know and love him as the sassy and loyal angel Balthazar, who helped both the Winchesters and Cas out during Balthazar in 'My Heart Will Go On'his time on the show. Sadly, Balthazar came to his untimely end at the hands of Cas, but fans remain hopeful we might see him again one day.

Despite the eight seasons of Supernatural, Balthazar was only in a small fraction of episodes, but Sebastian’s talent shone through and he created a character which will always be loved and missed.

Despite not currently having any more episodes on Supernatural scheduled, Sebastian continues to attend conventions to the happiness of fans, and keeps them entertained with his delightful character and humour. Sebastian Roché is a very lively character, and his banter with the rest of the cast and the devoted fans is something to behold.
